Lockdown Auto Care
Published August 24th, 2021
You can be forgiven for thinking that because your car isn’t running so much during lockdown periods that this is a good thing.
Our cars are designed to be driven, engines to be regularly operating, batteries to be constantly charged. Once that process stops, problems can develop, particularly with batteries and fast-moving engine components.
Midas Auto Service Centres nationwide and their highly experienced technicians offer auto repairs at almost 90 locations across Australia and all of them are happy to take a look at your car should you be experiencing any lockdown vehicle issues.
It is always better to know that you have a car in the garage that is in excellent working order than to find out that it won’t start when you need it the most. The friendly experts at your local Midas Auto Service Centre can do all of the diagnostic checks, updates and repairs required to keep your car operating at its full potential.
Here are some tips for those of you with cars that have remained undriven for more than a week due to your local lockdown conditions. Roll the car out of the garage and run the engine for a good five minutes on idle, giving it a gentle rev or two when up to operating temperature – then hold to 2,500 to 3,000 rpm (which is roughly equivalent to driving 100kph on the freeway) for about 30 to 45 seconds before dropping back to idle and then switching it off. This process keeps the battery charged, the fuel injectors clean and the engine belts tensioned. Should you notice any unusual noises or vibrations that do not go away after a minute or so, be sure to take your car to your local Midas for checking and repairs if required.
Remember, small auto repair problems can become big and expensive car maintenance problems when they are neglected. You now have the time to ensure that this is not the case for you.
