Is smoking while driving illegal or dangerous?

While it is not illegal to smoke while operating a motor vehicle, it is another distraction we could all do without. There have been a number of occasions I have pulled up next to another car while cruising down the motorway, only to see they are steering with their legs while they roll and light up. This was enough to send chills up my spine, if something unexpected happened right now, that driver has no control. His feet are away from the pedals, and his hands are busy. He probably would not even see it happening.

If you are a smoker and enjoy having a puff while you are on the road, pre-roll any cigarettes you think you might need and have them readily available to you. While most of us understand habits, not many of us extend this understanding when these habits threaten innocent lives.

Remember, flicking your cigarette out of the window is punishable by a fine!
