The importance of paying attention to emergency vehicles

When an emergency vehicle has engaged their lights and sirens, it is because there is a life-threatening situation that requires their assistance.

A huge amount of Australian drivers do not seem to understand the importance of moving out of the way for these emergency crews, and this can be the difference between life and death for someone.

Here are a few tips to help you help emergency vehicles:

1) Slow down, but do so gently. Suddenly slamming on the brakes could create another accident.
2) Indicate so the emergency vehicle and other drivers know where you are moving
3) Keep the volume of music inside your car at a reasonable level so you can hear approaching sirens
4) Under no circumstances should you move directly into the path of the emergency vehicle
5) Move as far left as you can

Remember, you must always abide by road rules, if the move you wish to make is unsafe or illegal, keep moving forward until it is safe for you to stop or move aside.
