What is the purpose of baby on board signs?

Recently a post has been doing the rounds on Social Media claiming these signs are to alert Emergency Services of an infant inside the vehicle. Although this would have been a brilliant idea, it is not why these signs were created. Having a baby on board triangle displayed was designed with the intention of letting other motorists know there are youngsters on board, in the hopes to minimize aggression and impatience expressed by other road users, and encouraging safer driving around a car with children.

Regardless of whether you are displaying it for emergency services, or for other road users, these are a great way to promote safer driving if you are carrying young people!
